The Murphy Arts District has announced that hip-hop artist 2 Chainz will be joining this year’s MusicFest lineup.

2 Chainz is filling the slot left vacant when chart-topping rapper Cardi B canceled just after giving birth to daughter Kulture Kiari Cephus in July. He will join headliners Sheila E, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Bret Michaels, Gucci Mane, Morris Day and the Time, Toby Keith, Justin Moore, Lita Ford, Sammy Hagar and the Circle and more for MusicFest XXXI, which is set for Oct. 18-20.

According to a news release from MAD, 2 Chainz, who was born and raised in College Park, Georgia, launched a successful solo career in 2010 with hits like “No Lie” and “Where U Been” while becoming the go-to artist for guest verses. His recent album “Based on a T.R.U. Story” debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200, selling 147,000 copies in its first week. His singles “No Lie,” “Birthday Song” and “I’m Different” charted in the top 50 of the Billboard Hot Hip Hop 100 and were certified Gold.

He performed at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards alongside longtime friend Lil Wayne. He has been nominated for over 13 BET Hip Hop Awards band won four. Additional honors include earning The Source Magazine’s “Man of the Year” award and was nominated for three Grammy Awards, including Best Rap Album. 2 Chainz also has collaborated with Lil Wayne, Kayne West, Nicki Minaj, Pharrell Williams, Major Lazer and Drake.

2 Chainz will perform at the Griffin Music Hall at 11 p.m. Oct. 19. Tickets are $85 for the pit and $70 for general admission and go on sale Sept. 13. Tickets can be purchased online at eldoMAD.com, in person at the MAD box office (101 E. Locust St.) from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday or via toll-free phone at 877-940-3334.

When Cardi B canceled her planned MusicFest performance, MAD officials said those who had already purchased tickets for the Cardi B concert could request a refund through the MAD box office or keep the ticket to use for the new act — 2 Chainz.

Along with the headliners presented by MAD, Main Street will be handling MusicFest festival attractions, musical entertainment for the side stages and food and arts and crafts vendors. The two groups first teamed up in 2017 to present Main Street’s flagship fundraiser.

At the El Dorado-Union County Chamber of Commerce Economic Outlook Luncheon on Wednesday, Bruce Butterfield, president of the Main Street Board, said the group has a lot planned for this year’s event. A 5K and a 10K run will be held, presented by the Medical Center of South Arkansas, which he said goes back to the earlier days of MusicFest.

“When MusicFest was started years ago, we had a 5K,” Butterfield said. “We’re bringing it back this year and we’re pretty excited about that.”

In addition to events such as the MusicFest pageant set for Oct. 14 and performances by the “America’s Got Talent” Flight Crew, Butterfield said Main Street is planning for a Ferris wheel to be placed on the corner of Elm Street and Jefferson. Main Street is also planning on having a mechanical bull, four-person bungee jumping, a rock wall, a NASCAR simulator, a pit stop challenge, a joust, a cannon ball blaster, laser tag and a zip line. Other features will be a Hispanic Fiesta night on the square with a salsa band from Texas and a Dutch oven gathering at the Newton House.

“We’re trying to step up how much we’re doing,” he said. “There’s going to be lots of things to do on the square. We’re very excited about the number of things we put together this year.”
