Little Rock band to perform at American Legion
Full House from Little Rock will be playing in the club starting at 8 p.m. Friday at American Legion. Everyone over 21 is invited to come dance in a smoke-free environment. There is an $8 cover at the door.
Genealogical Society to share research secrets
The Union County Genealogical Society will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Barton Library for its regular meeting. All of the membership will offer what they have accomplished during their genealogy research. Members will be sharing secrets of their research, so it will be a good time for anyone interested in getting started in genealogy to visit our meeting.
Civic offices announce MLK day closings
The Union County Courthouse and the offices at Norphlet City Hall will be closed Monday in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
Norphlet Water, Entergy and Centerpoint Energy payments can be put in the drop box in Mayor Jim Crotty’s office door. Normal hours at Norphlet City Hall will resume at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Smackover-Norphlet School Board meeting
SMACKOVER — The Smackover-Norphlet School Board’s meeting previously scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Monday has been postponed until Jan. 29. The public meeting will be held in the central office boardroom.
SupportAgape tote housed at Chamber office
The El Dorado-Union County Chamber of Commerce is collecting hygiene, laundry and household cleaning items for Agape House Children’s Home until the end of February. Donations can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday at the Chamber’s office in downtown El Dorado.
Predator trapping seminar scheduled in Magnolia
MAGNOLIA — There will be a free predator trapping seminar from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday at Steve’s Outdoor Sports, 606 W. Main St., Magnolia.
Each year coyotes kill an average of 3.5 deer fawns per coyote in the spring.
The trapper will also be buying furs dressed or undressed, tails and antlers. Call 870-234-2277 for more information.
El Dorado Packaging to host Chamber’s ‘Business After Hours’
The El Dorado-Union County Chamber’s “Business After Hours” will be hosted by El Dorado Packaging Tuesday.
Business After Hours is a monthly opportunity to network with other area professionals as well as visit a Chamber of Commerce member’s business and learn more about what it does. Quesadillas with all of the sides and fixings will be served.
Patrons are asked to bring business cards to put in for a prize drawing. The event will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at El Dorado Packaging, 204 Prescolite Drive.
'Barton Library to host ‘Heroes of the Underground Railroad’
The Bright Stars Touring Theatre will make a stop in El Dorado to portray “Heroes of the Underground Railroad” during Black History Month.
The 45-minute show “is an inspiring exploration of the lives and work of notable Abolitionists and slaves from America’s Underground Railroad” and “sheds light on everything from secret messages along the routes to music from the period,” according to the North Carolina-based company.
While the venue hasn’t been solidified yet, Barton Public Library has scheduled the performance on Feb. 15. The event is suitable for all ages and free to the public. For more information, contact Karla Nelson at 870-863-5447.
