El Dorado gymnast places fourth in Galveston event

GALVESTON ISLAND, Texas - El Dorado's Anabelle Dewey competed Friday in the Chow's Challenge & Elite Compulsory Qualifier at Galveston Island, Texas Convention Center. Dewey, a 9-year-old, placed fourth all-around at the event.

"She practiced her Level 5 routines for only two weeks before competing," said her mother, Christy Dewey.

Anabelle's All-Around score was a 37.125. She scored a 9.15 on the vault, 9.225 on the uneven bars, 9.35 on the balance beam and a 9.4 on the floor exercise.

"I just went out there and did my thing because I just knew I could do it because I'm going to be an Elite," Anabelle said. "I was really proud of myself and happy to compete for the first time with my gym."

The performance was Anabelle's first while competing for North East Texas Elite Gymnastics. She scored out of Level 5.

"Now, the fun begins," she said. "Let's go Elite."

Her next event will be Feb. 12 at the 2018 City of Lights Invitational in Orlando.
